KANDANAD: A Protest Rally & Symbolic blockade was held by the parishioners of St. Mary's Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Cathedral, Kandanad demanding stoppage of the illegal construction being done by the Methran Kakshis alongside the compound wall of the Cathedral church. Thousands of parishioners including women & children participated. The rally was flagged off by V. Rev John Punnachalil Cor-Episcopa & Vicar Rev. Fr Shaji Meppadom. The rally was led by Church Secretary Shri. Johny Keeyalil, Shri. T K Thankachan, Shri. Reji Kudilil, Shri. Wilson Paulose, Shri. Babu Elapasseri, Shri. Elias Abraham, Shri. Nithin Paily, Shri. Thomas Kurishinkal, Shri. Thomas Alunkal, Sheeba Saji & Chinnamma Jose.
The protest meeting warned the methran kakshis that if they go ahead with the illegal construction of the building alongside the Church compound wall, the outcome would serious. It was also pointed out that the same Methran Kakshis even took the law into their own hands and orgnanised protest meet against the Jacobites constructing an Old age home in Parumala even though it was about 800 Meters away from their Church & Seminary.
The symbolic blockade was inaugurated by Church Trustee Shri. Thambu George Thukalan. The meeting also warned that, if the building which was being constructed after seeking permission as a tution centre will be used for any other religious purposes, strong action against such activities will be taken up. The meeting also pointed out that the government machinery and the Grama Panchayath, who are supposed to enforce law are seen helping unlawful activities of Methran kakshis here.
